Rocky Point Middle School’s two robotics teams are headed to the Long Island Championship this March after earning a bid during the annual FIRST Lego League Qualifier Tournament. During the late January event, both teams – the Radical Robotix and the Robo Eagles – dominated the field and outperformed some of the top clubs from across the region. In addition to their bid to the Long Island contest, the Radical Robotix took home the first-place trophy for Gracious Professionalism for the second consecutive year. During and leading up to the contests, club members work to solve real-world engineering problems and challenges by applying math, science and technology skills. This year’s challenge is FLL World Class, which called for students to find ways to improve the learning experience of others on a topic of their choice using technology. The annual FLL Tournament is an international sports-like challenge for children ages 9 to 14 to test their creative robotic skills by using science and technology with the help of adult mentors. Congratulations to the middle school teams: Rocky Point Robo Eagles Robey Bolen James Carmody Lizzy Carrera Thomas Haviland Matt Koproski Kayla MacKay Thomas McDonald Tabitha McMillen Jared Sayler Nash Thixton Breenan Vlacich Alexander Zaslavsky Rocky Point Radical Robotix Nicholas Accetta James Alexander Bejamin Bogart Julius Condemi Tristan Duenas Jack Grossman Eric Janus Clayton MacKay Cole Markland Shane Monaghan Samuel Moscoso Ethan Nichols Matthew Quinn
