Rocky Point middle and high school students worked to spread awareness of the French culture and language as they hosted a French Day for the building’s sixth-graders.
The event, which was designed to provide an introduction to the French courses offered in the district, was created by the upperclassmen and coordinated by teacher Katerina Daly in the middle school library. It featured seven interactive stations that ranged from games to trivia contests and even a menu tasting area featuring taped cooking demonstrations by the 11th- and 12th-grade students. After visiting each station, the students received a stamp on their “passport.” Those who visited all the stations were entered into a raffle to win a prize.
In addition to affording the sixth-graders the chance to see the progress they will make through the program, the event allowed the upperclassmen to practice skills such as time management and collaboration and showcase their creativity.
