Rocky Point School District students and staff regularly engage in proactive measures to help reduce waste and recycle appropriate materials utilized in the buildings. This spring, as a continuation of the efforts taking place at Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School, the district has partnered with the Town of Brookhaven for its single-stream recycling program.
To help promote this activity, the town has provided, at no cost to the district, a large receptacle for the school to collect all single-stream eligible recyclable materials – which previously had been sorted into appropriate bins before the collection process could occur. The town will also collect these materials at no cost to the district.
The school received a visit from Town of Brookhaven Supervisor Ed Romaine, Town Councilwoman Jane Bonner and recycling mascot Curby to hear more about the initiative and how they can help reduce waste in their school and homes.
