On October 28, 2014, Joseph Edgar students from the grade 5 GATES program visited the oldest house in Rocky Point. It currently serves as the Rocky Point Historical Society’s Hallock House Homestead.
The students viewed the home, grounds, and cemetery that was built in the early 1700’s. During the tour they found a grade 5 arithmetic book and attempted to solve math problems that grade 5 students were required to do in 1915! They even viewed photos of their own school taken just a few years after it was built. The students also learned about Morse code in the “radio room” of the home. They will continue to research Morse Code and Rocky Points History with their teacher Mr. Friscia.
