Several students in the Rocky Point School District earned top honors at this year’s Brookhaven National Lab Science Fair. Frank J. Carasiti Elementary School first-grader Jennifer Tiskowitz was named a first-place winner for her project “Keep My Craft Colorful.” FJC second-grader Caiden Palank and Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School fourth-grader Mikayla Minton each won honorable mention in their respective categories. “I was really happy to win first place,” Jennifer said. “It makes me want to do other projects in the future.” Jennifer’s project examined the effect several common household items have on a colorful craft left in the sun. Her experiment noted that Pledge protected the item best when left to the elements for six days. Caiden’s project was titled “Sock Science” and focused on which sock materials kept feet the warmest. Mikayla’s project, “Bath or Shower,” focused on which used more water.
