On Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Board of Education meeting the Rocky Point UFSD recognized Donna Murphy for her thirty-three years of service to the Rocky Point School District. Donna Murphy worked during this time as a lunch monitor at the Joseph A. Edgar Intermediate School.
During her tenure in Rocky Point, Donna has cared for over three generations of children. Many former students are pleasantly surprised to see that their child or grandchild is assigned to Mrs. Murphy for lunch and recess.
When asked, her colleagues shared that Donna was a selfless, compassionate friend always willing to listen. Her colleagues shared that Donna was more interested in the welfare of others than of her own, and she was always the first to offer help or contribute when someonewas in need. As a co-worker, Donna was dedicated, conscientious, and responsible. Donna was known for taking fledgling monitors under her wing until they were confident enough to be on their own. Her first and only concern was keeping the children happy and safe.
Donna served under many superintendents, administrators, board members, faculty and staff, many of whom have long since retired. Those who know Donna remember will remember a picture of a little woman scurrying down the hallway, donning red lipstick, earrings and pocketbook on her arm as she was most likely chasing down a child who left a precious favorite little toy behind in the cafeteria.
The halls, cafeteria, and playground will be just a little emptier on October 7th when Donna retires. The district and her JAE family send best wishes to Donna on her retirement.
