Seventy-two members of the Class of 2014 and 2015 at Rocky Point High School have been named Advanced Placement Scholars; a distinction given to students by the College Board based on their cumulative performance on AP exams.
The number of AP scholars in Rocky Point has grown tremendously over the past several years as the district has offered more AP courses. In 2013, the high school boasted 27 scholars and this year’s number of 72 more than doubles that amount.
The honor of AP Scholar with Distinction was granted to Tejas Tope, who receive an average score of at least 3.5 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams.
Eleven current students were named AP Scholars with Honor as they received an average score of at least 3.25 on all AP exams taken, and scores of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These included: Ryan Hibbard, Shannon Magrane, Shaun Martinsen, Lauren McBrearty, Nicholas Migliore, Joseph Niver, Brittany Rinaldi, Kenneth Schick, Frankie Sciulla, Antoinette Timmerman, and Muhammad Yazdanie.
Additionally, 17 students were named AP scholars for receiving scores of 3 or higher on three or more AP exams. These included: Nicole Berg, Erin Damers, Louis Duffy, George Fabricatore, Aijia Feng, Katherine Guevara, Sara Janus, Julia Kutsch, Erin Michelitsch, Alexander Peck, Jeremy Sticco, Robert Strazzeri, Cole Sugrue, Jack Sullivan, Jerome Vessichio, Michael Volpe and Casey Williamson.
Two members of the Class of 2014 were given the highest honor of National AP Scholar, which is awarded to students receiving an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken and scores of 4 or higher on eight or more of these exams.
“The noticeable success of our students is a direct reflection of their commitment to their studies and the support of our dedicated staff members,” said Principal John DeBenedetto. “These programs provide our students with the chance to get a jump start on their college careers and the opportunity to advance their studies. On the behalf of the district, I commend our students and thank our teaching and support staff for their commitment to our student’s success.”
