Seuss Celebration Crosses Curriculum

Frank J. Carasiti second-graders in Danielle Young and Nicole Fernandez’s class completed a weeklong author study in honor of Dr. Seuss this March. After reading several famous Dr. Seuss stories, the students undertook writing projects based on the books’ themes. They described the places they wanted to visit after reading “Oh the Places You’ll Go,” completed cause-and-effect statements following “The Lorax,” and dreamt up new animals after reading “If I Ran a Zoo.” The class also conducted an oobleck science experiment after reading “Bartholomew and the Oobleck.” They compiled their ideas in a class book that described what they would do if the Cat in the Hat were to visit their house, and they fashioned Thing 1 and Thing 2 hats.
